Referee David Coote is now the talk of the Premier League, and former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan has had his say.

Coote made headlines around the world when a video of him making derogatory comments about him emerged online Liverpool and former director Jurgen Klopp.

The referee, who oversaw the Reds’ 2-0 win Aston Villa Last time he called the coach a ‘German bastard’ and Liverpool ‘s***’.

Coote has since been suspended from his position referee body the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) has started an investigation.

Much of the talk centers on whether Coote can officiate games for Liverpool again, or even operate in the Premier League, with former Anfield giants. Says Danny Murphy he thinks the 42-year-old is ‘ready’ in the top flight.

Fellow talkSPORT presenter Jordan gave his opinion on the matter, saying: “This is what he has put on himself. So he must reap the whirlwind that he started to spin, because he is the one who opened his mouth and pronounced a terrible judgment.

“This is not an accusation. We have seen the video. Unless AI is involved, this came out of his mouth and this is what he said.

‘It will be interesting to see how he can find his way through this because the inherent responsibility will have to be on him.

“Howard Webb (head of PMOL) did not invite this. Howard Webb doesn’t want this. He wants a refereeing fraternity that is above reproach. So he wants them to be in a situation where the sound is dimmed and he tries to determine this. And out of the air comes one of his elite referees making childish, immature, unprofessional observations.

‘Can he redeem himself? Can he find his way back? Should he be dropped in the EFL? And people say, if you get punished in the Premier League, is that less valuable in the EFL? Will you take the castles out of the Premier League? Don’t know. But should a man lose his career because of some stupid observations? I dare not suggest that this should be the case.”

Liverpool as a club have yet to respond to the video, and Jordan thinks it might be best to stay given what has happened.

Asked how he would have responded as Palace chairman, he said: “My response to this would be to believe I would be objective and let the PGMOL deal with the issue. That’s their job, that’s their problem, they created this situation, keep doing your job. I have to run a football club.

“But I also know how tribal you are when you’re indexed and in the bubble, and so you can’t help but feel that the evidence you’ve heard and seen about decisions you were involved in as the owner of the football club and looked and you thought, well that’s a bit strong, that’s not right.

“You get sucked into that story and ultimately get a certain feeling about it. Look, I’d like to think I’d be objective and let the course of action unfold around the observations of this rather foolish fellow.

PGMOL head Webb now finds himself in a difficult position, having taken a very public approach to his job as head referee.

The former official hosts a show with Michael Owen where he discusses refereeing incidents, while he has also been known to travel to clubs and publicly apologize for botched calls.

When asked if he would call Webb to discuss the story, Jordan replied: “I don’t think I would, I don’t know what I would get out of it.

‘When I play in the gallery, when I go to do an interview with the local press in Liverpool, telling them on their behalf how offended I am.

“Or I look at it and think: You’re fucking stupid, you’ve said stupid things and you’re going to reap the whirlwind of it.

“No doubt people will not stop until you are forced to leave the refereeing profession and your calling and disappear to a third world country and perhaps work there as a referee because people there may forgive you.

“But the thing is, I look at it and say, what’s the point of talking about it? Besides, what am I going to do with it?

“Am I going to pick up the phone to Howard and say, I find that unacceptable? Howard doesn’t need to be told that what comes out of that man’s mouth is unacceptable.
